FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Children’s minds are amazing. They are always thinking. They have
questions and they want answers. After a presentation in a classroom, library or assembly these are the most frequently asked questions!

How did you know you wanted to be an author?

Answer: In my late teens I started writing inspirational poetry. It wasn’t until 1991 that I started writing children’s stories. I soon realized how much I enjoyed the art of writing and how much I wanted to share my work with other people. There you have it, an author was born!

Where did you get your idea from to create a story?

Answer: I get my ideas through ‘Inspiration’. A person, place or thing, can inspire you to write. I was inspired by nature, family, emotions, factual events that took place. I love fantasy, and am presently working on my first fantasy novel.

How do I get my book published and where do I go?

Answer: There are two ways of publishing your book. First, look for a literary agent or a publishing company. The Writer’s Market, is a good source to choose. Secondly, you may decide to self publish your work. For first time authors, this is an approachable way to get your work out there. Internet access is an easy way to get a lot of information.

How will I know what kind of story to write?

Answer: Without doubt, you will know! Whether you like fantasy, action adventure, or are a history buff, you will know that this is the one. Your words will come easy, without hesitation, as your thoughts will be running wild. As soon as you get the idea, write it down immediately. If you wait till later, you will have lost that powerful feeling and thought.

How long does it take to write a book?

Answer: There is no time limit. It can take anywhere from months to years, literally. Your story line, the total number of pages, can play a big part in that factor. You will know when your story is finished, as you gracefully type, The End!

Who is your favorite author?

Answer: One of my favorite authors is Gary Paulsen. I am intrigued by ‘survival techniques’. I love nature. Land, water and the wild can be challenging but yet so peaceful. I love adventure. Gary Paulsen really brings out a lot of the survival challenges you would be faced with if left on an island and had to survive on your own.

If you are reading this…then you will be one of the few to know…I will be applying for the reality show, “SURVIVOR”.
